Online Sci-Café: Restoration of MK Ranch
March 25, 2021 @ 3:00 pm
- This event has passed.
Jeff Beal, lead Florida biologist for Ducks Unlimited, will tell us about the MK Ranch project, a key restoration project on the Apalachicola River. MK Ranch comprises approximately 6,400 acres of historic tidal marsh in the lower Apalachicola River Basin and acts as a filter and storage area for water flowing from upland sites to the tributaries of Lake Wimico and Apalachicola Bay. Previous activity from the 1970s severed the river from its floodplain, changed water flow patterns restricting freshwater flows into the estuarine system. This had downstream consequences for water quality in Apalachicola Bay.
